On Saturday April 16, 2016 we explored Point Mugu SP from above – in the past we have driven through or enjoyed the beach and ocean views from sea level – now for a different perspective. It was a blustery day in Southern California with gusts into the 50’s but with temps in the high 70’s.

We generally followed the the Scenic and Overlook Trails Loop described by Hikespeak but our wanderings extended the trip to over 8 miles and ascending about 500 feet in my search for the best views  of the Pacific and Santa Monica Mountains and Valleys. Spring in So Cal brings some green to a generally straw colored landscape, wild flowers and a lost butterfly.

For those interested, the hike starts at the Big Sycamore Canyon Day use area about 32 miles north of Santa Monica on the PCH.
